So, I just remembered that I had a blog. It has been over a year since my last post. The reason I had this blog in the first place was for my Written Communications class that I had second semester last year. We had to post on the blog every week on a different topic. I was looking at some of my older posts and saw that I did a post about peanut butter. It made me laugh inside while reading because I couldn't believe I blogged about peanut butter. But anyway, I came across my blog when I realized I have a email through gmail. I had to think to myself why did I make a gmail account? Then it hit me, oh yeah that is right I had to have it for my the blog I did for that one class. I proceeded to go to blogger.com and couldn't believe I could remember how to get it and never the less my password. Surprisingly, I did remember my password and also couldn't believe all the numbers and passwords that I have to memorize on a daily basis. I wanted to write on my blog again because I thought it could be something I could do this summer. I have been off work the last 4 days and will work tomorrow. So days when I don't work or don't have anything to do I thought I could blog. This some of the things that have happened to me recently:
Like I said I work tomorrow. For all of you that don't know I work as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem, WI. It is about a 20 minute drive from where I live in La Crosse, WI. I now live in a new place with Kelsey Bowe as my roommate. It will just be the two of us in this compared to our old place that had Kelsey, me, and two other roommates that were from Tomah. It will better that it will only be Kelsey and I because then we can focus on what we are going to school for and that is nursing. I still go to school at Western Technical College and will be starting my 3rd year there this fall.
There was a waiting list for the nursing program when I was accepted to attend Western Technical College. All the other technical colleges have a waiting list too, so it didn't matter where I went I would have to wait anyway. I chose Western because it was a way from home and they had residence halls to stay in for my first year. I wanted to get away from my parents, so I could explore the world through my own eyes. I have learned a lot about being on my own. I wouldn't say I am completely on my own because I still call my parents when I need advice about something. Exploring the world on my own so far has been challenging at some times, but also so exciting at the same time!
The wait is over. It has been 2 years and I just found out last Thursday that I will get to start the nursing program in the fall!!! :-) :-) :-) You don't know how happy I was to get a call to ask me if I wanted to start a semester earlier than what I was originally accepted to start. I will finally be able to do what I went to school for and that is to become the best nurse I can be! :-) I get to take 4 classes this fall. The classes are Nursing Skills, Nursing Fundamentals, Nursing Pharmacology, and a Clinical at a nursing home. I am so excited and nervous at the same time to start the program.
It has been about 3 to 4 months since my Uncle Chris found out that he was diagnosed with leukemia. It was toward the end of March when he thought he had the flu which turned into you Acute Myeloid Leukemia. It was definitely a shock to me and to my family. A great thing about it was the doctors said he could be able to fight it because it was younger than most people that get it. It has gone through 3 rounds of chemotherapy, with the last round being the strongest. Our family would take rounds on staying with my uncle in the hospital while he went through chemo and everything. I stayed with him quite a bit and was glad to be with him. The doctors said that in the 3rd round he could of developed sores in the mouth that would of affected his swallowing ability. He would had to been connected to a feeding tube. But luckily and we are so thankful that he never had those effects. Then it was on May 25th that he received the best news in the world, that he was leukemia free!!! That day was an emotional day when my uncle, grandma, and I came back from the cafeteria to hear from the nurse that GREAT news! Unfortunately though my uncle's body will not be able to make new healthy cells on his own, so he will need a transplant. The kind of transplant he needs is bone marrow or stem cells they call it. The doctors went to the national bank to see if anyone was match. They found out there wasn't a match. Then my mom and aunt got tested to see if one of them were a match. My mom wasn't, but it was great to find out that my aunt was match! My aunt the angel sent from above is going to give her stem cells to my uncle! So, right now he got discharged from the hospital and stays at the Transplant House that is close to the hospital. He goes just to the hospital for appointments now and waits for the insurance to go through for my aunt to give her stem cells to him. My uncle will probably be in Rochester for another 3 to 4 months then. I will go stay with him throughout that time at the Transplant House when I don't have to work or don't have anything else going on. He needs caregiver 24/7 there so his roommate, mom, grandma, and I are going to take turns staying with him. I pray for my uncle to have a speedy recovery and for everything to go great!!! He is my favorite uncle and love him very much!
I can't believe my baby brother graduated from high school on June 4th! I am so proud of him! He will be attending St. Cloud State University to play football and to go to school for accounting. He wants to get into the school of business there. My mom, dad, grandma, bud, aunt, and I were at the ceremony. I couldn't believe that I went through the same thing two years ago. Before I know it will be having our 5 year reunion! Time goes by fast when you get older. We then had the graduation party on June 6th in the fashion I had my party in, but just a little different because of him being a boy. I had so much fun getting ready for the graduation party and spending time with family and friends! There were some people I saw and talked to that I haven't seen in a long time.
I can't believe how long I have been typing. Just to let all of you know that I will be going back and forth to Chippewa and La Crosse. When I don't have work or do anything in La Crosse I will be back in Chippewa. I will be sure to write as often as I can about events that are happening to be over the summer and beyond. I will have to post some pictures of our new place in La Crosse after we get it decorated a little more. Hope you all have a great day and summer!!!
Elizabeth :-) :-) :-)
